Anne Campbell

“Anne Campbell may best be known as ‘the First Lady of Thoroughbred Racing Partnerships,’ but to think of her only in that vein would understate all that is Anne Campbell and all that she has done for our great sport of racing. Anne and her late husband, Cot, are not only credited with developing the syndicate racing partnership model, but more importantly introducing and nurturing in excess of 1000 new people into the sport.

Anne’s contributions extend way beyond her role at Dogwood Stables. She has cared and championed many causes beyond racing partnerships. Her love and support of the people and the horses is manifested in the many endeavors that have occupied her time and heart over the years.

Recently, I have personally seen this when we both sat on the board of Saratoga War Horse. Anne seamlessly blended her desire to support a second career for retired Thoroughbred race horses with that of helping the men and women who have served our country and are in need of the connection process that Saratoga War Horse provides. Anne worked tirelessly to bring the program to her home of Aiken, SC, five years ago.

Anne certainly has earned and deserves the recognition of a SheHero profile. Her contributions are many and continuing.”

“Mrs. Campbell’s leadership with Saratoga War Horse and the Dogwood Dominion Award have positively changed many lives. She’s a terrific ambassador for racing and role model to all.”

Todd Pletcher – Multiple Eclipse Award-winning Trainer

“I have known Anne Campbell (and her husband Cot) since 1976.  They have been like grandparents to our children.  All during Cot’s pioneering days in the Thoroughbred industry, Anne was always by his side.  Due to her fear of horses, he was always between them!

Anne has been in Saratoga every summer for the race meet since the early 1970s.  Anne formed the Backstretch Brigade to fund raise for the NY Racetrack Chaplaincy Association.  She also brought the Saratoga War Horse program to Aiken She continues to be an Honorary Board member of both.

When Dogwood Stable and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners came together in 2012, Anne played a major role in introducing and transitioning partners from the Dogwood program into the Eclipse program. Anne has been a pillar in Aiken, SC as a member of several civic organizations.”

“To me, Anne Campbell is very much the First Lady of horse racing.  Anne was such an integral part of Cot Campbell’s and Dogwood Stables’ success.  Having the privilege to have gotten to know Cot and Anne well through the Dogwood/Eclipse merger, I know Cot would emphatically state the same.  Together, they broke down barriers which have paved the way for modern racehorse ownership.  No matter where Cot was, Anne was by his side, offering insightful wisdom and promoting the sport with infectious enthusiasm, all the while doing so with a smile that could light up the grandstand.  But, Anne wasn’t just intimately involved with their personal and business success, she was and continues to be incredibly dedicated to giving back to the horse racing industry.  Her passion for racing-related philanthropy, even to this day, is remarkable.  Anne has an insatiable appetite for the game and for life in general.  With the utmost of class and integrity, she has served and continues to act as a supreme Ambassador for the sport.  Her contributions should be cherished and appreciated to no end!”
